Usage |
Nicergoline, a semisynthetic ergot alkaloid derivative, is a potent, selective and orally active α1A-adrenergic receptor antagonist. Nicergoline has a vasodilatory effect. Nicergoline improves cognitive function in Alzheimer's mice.
Function of Nicergoline
1. Improve cerebral circulation: Nicergoline can dilate resistance blood vessels, thereby improving cerebral circulation. As a specific adrenergic α1 receptor blocker, the drug can inhibit the pressor reflex of resistance vessels, increase the local cerebral blood flow and glucose utilization during the reperfusion period after bilateral internal carotid artery ligation in rats; reduce the blood pressure in anesthetized dogs blood pressure, but does not affect the cerebral blood flow of Chemicalbook; and can improve the cerebral vasospasm induced by experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage in rabbits.
2. Improve brain metabolism and electrophysiological activities: Long-term treatment with nicergoline can improve the glucose utilization rate of brain extracts from aged rats. Acute medication can improve memory function in elderly subjects, increase the total energy of EEG topography, and reduce slow waves.
