In June 2022, at the 22nd Japan Anti-Aging Medical Association meeting, researchers from Doshisha University in Japan announced the results of a clinical study: NMN supplementation(beta Nicotinamide mononucleotide, CAS No.:1094-61-7) in postmenopausal women can improve health indicators that decline with age, including metabolic and hormonal health, while at the same time. Improve indicators of skin aging.
The study recruited 17 postmenopausal women (mean age 55.0 years) without underlying medical conditions to take 300 mg of pure NMN every morning for 8 weeks without changing their lifestyle, and 16 completed the study. The effect of NMN was confirmed by measuring multiple indicators of the body, as well as the participants' feelings assessment. The results reconfirmed the safety of NMN and found favorable changes in many biomarkers.
1. NMN increased adiponectin and DHEA-s levels
After 8 weeks of NMN administration in postmenopausal women, adiponectin increased significantly from 13.6 to 16.2 µg/mL, and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate DHEA-s increased from 1108 to 1275 ng/mL. Adiponectin is an endogenous biologically active polypeptide or protein secreted by adipocytes. Adiponectin is an insulin-sensitizing hormone. Animal experiments have found that it can improve insulin resistance and arteriosclerosis in mice; human studies have found that adiponectin levels can predict the development of type II diabetes and coronary heart disease, and Demonstrated antidiabetic, antiatherogenic and inflammatory potential in clinical trials.
In addition, the experiment also confirmed that dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) also has a certain improvement. DHEA is an endogenous steroid hormone, secreted by the adrenal cortex reticular zone, is an indirect precursor of hormones such as estradiol and testosterone, and also has a variety of anti-aging effects different from sex hormones. DHEA levels decrease with age and are associated with increased incidence of several aging problems, such as osteoporosis, immune aging, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes. DHEA mainly exists in the human body in the form of DHEA-s. The data show that DHEA-s in human blood peaks at the age of 20-30, and is much lower by the age of 60. Especially for postmenopausal women, low levels of DHEA-s can lead to many health problems. Notably, although DHEA-s levels were elevated, sex hormones (estradiol, free testosterone) and thyroid hormone levels were not affected. This also illustrates the security of NMN again.
2. NMN improves skin and reduces glycation
"Anti-glycation" is a hot topic in skin anti-aging in recent years. With aging, decreased metabolic level, stress, and irregular living and eating habits, the sugar (carbohydrate) we ingested accumulates in the body and reacts with collagen to form a "glycation reaction" terminal glycosylation product AGEs. The accumulation of AGEs in the skin will cause the skin to appear aging, sagging and dull. After taking NMN, the AF value, which reflects the number of AGEs in the skin, decreased significantly.
In addition, after taking NMN for 8 weeks, the subjects evaluated skin changes by visual analog scale, and in 7 VAS items (moisture, dry skin, age spots, skin elasticity, makeup, skin roughness, acne), 6 items were significant improve: (1) Improve the skin (reduce spots, fine lines and freckles, moisturize the skin, lighten fine lines and whiten); (2) Improve sleep (better sleep, easier to fall asleep, better wake up in the morning); (3) Fatigue and physical fitness (reduced fatigue, fatigue recovery, better mobility, faster running, less muscle pain after exercise). (4) Others include body warming (increased sensitivity to cold), decreased eye fatigue, better night vision, decreased allergic eye symptoms, decreased weight gain, decreased drunkenness, improved constipation, brighter hair, hair Faster growth, increased appetite, better mood, less joint pain, quicker thinking and more.
