Classification and application of enzymes
Aug 18, 2022
Enzyme is a class of organic substances with biocatalytic activity produced by living cells. The Enzyme Commsion of the International Biochemical Society divides enzymes into six categories:
1. Oxidoreductases
2. Transferases
3. Hydrolases
4. Lyases
5. Isomerases
6. Ligase synthetases (ligases, synthetases)
Scientific researchers predict that there are about 25,000 kinds of enzymes with different catalytic functions in nature. More than 5,000 kinds of enzymes known in nature have been identified, of which at least 700 kinds of enzymes exist in humans (mammals).
Enzymes have a wide range of applications, including:
1. Pharmaceutical industry: pharmaceutical raw materials, pharmaceutical manufacturing, pharmaceutical intermediates, chiral drugs, analytical testing, medical diagnosis, etc.
2. Food manufacturing: dairy products, juice, candy, wine, bakery, pasta, etc.
3. Cosmetics industry
4. Healthcare& food supplement industry
5. Detergent industry: washing powder, detergent, detergent, etc.
6. Textile and paper industry: desizing, amylase, cellulase, etc.
7. Feed addition in aquaculture
8. New energy biofuel
