China's astaxanthin industrialization is developing rapidly
May 10, 2023
As one of the most effective antioxidants in nature, astaxanthinis widely used in anti-aging products, cosmetics and health care products. In order to meet the growing demand for astaxanthin in the market, domestic enterprises are still actively committed to the technological upgrading of the Haematococcus pluvialis industry, so as to further increase the production of Haematococcus pluvialis and astaxanthin.
The difficulties in the industrialization of Haematococcus pluvialis are manifested in two aspects: on the one hand, the large-scale cultivation of Haematococcus pluvialis is difficult, and on the other hand, it is difficult to extract astaxanthin. In the southwestern plateau region of my country, abundant sunshine, clean water resources, suitable humidity and good natural environment provide suitable conditions for the growth of Haematococcus pluvialis. Thanks to the advantages of natural endowments and breakthroughs in technical barriers, the production of Haematococcus pluvialis and astaxanthin in China is now at the forefront of the world, and the annual output of astaxanthin in Yunnan Province alone accounts for about 40% of the world's total production .
Studies have shown that light is one of the key factors affecting the accumulation of astaxanthin in Haematococcus pluvialis. Among the domestic Haematococcus pluvialis breeding enterprises, China has realized the world's first fully enclosed industrial microalgae breeding system in which artificial light and sunlight are mixed, and has explored a new way for the industry in terms of industrial production capacity. It is worth noting that the industrialized cultivation of Haematococcus pluvialis can also use the photosynthesis of microalgae to achieve carbon sequestration, which can contribute to the reduction of industrial carbon emissions when combined with industrial waste gas treatment.
