What is Sodium Taurocholate?
Sodium Taurocholate is a common
conjugated Bile acid, which is composed of the carboxyl group of bile acid and
the amino group of Taurine by amide bond.
Physiological functions of sodium taurocholate:
In addition to the physiological function of Bile acid, sodium taurocholate also has its unique function. Sodium taurocholate can stimulate the secretion of bile by liver cells, increase its solid composition, promote fat emulsification and absorption, and facilitate the absorption of fat soluble vitamins; The experiment proved that a certain concentration of sodium taurocholate could promote the absorption of Carotenoid in the isolated small intestine cells of animals.
Sodium taurocholate plays an important role in mediating the uptake of bile salts from blood. However, the effect of sodium taurocholate on dissolving gallstones is relatively weak.
In vivo synthesis and metabolism of sodium taurocholate:
Sodium taurocholate is produced by conjugation of cholic acid coenzyme A with Taurine and removal of coenzyme A. Under the action of intestinal bacteria, sodium taurocholate undergoes hydrolysis and α Dehydroxylation produces secondary Bile acid - Deoxycholic acid. Taurocholate sodium carries out hepato intestinal circulation and is reabsorbed by the body mainly through Active transport in the intestine.
