6-Benzofurancarboxylic acid is one of the key intermediates of Lifitegrast.
Function of Lifitegrast
Lifitegrast is a leukocyte function antigen 1 antagonist used in the treatment of dry eye. Lifitegras can bind to leukocyte functional antigen 1 (LFA-1), preventing the binding of LFA-1 to its cognate ligand intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1). ICAM-1 is overexpressed in the corneal Chemicalbook membrane and conjunctival tissues of patients with dry eye, and LFA-1 binds to ICAM-1 to promote the formation of immune synapses, leading to activation of T cells and migration to target tissues. In vitro studies have shown that Lifitegrast can inhibit T cell adhesion to ICAM-1 and also inhibit the secretion of inflammatory cytokines in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
